Dolby Atmos...and why you need an Atmos Expert Atmos is Dolby's new "object oriented" surround sound technology that goes beyond 5.1 and 7.1 channels. Atmos employs additional speakers to add vertical and horizontal dimension to the sound field. Theater systems have been around for a few years, and employ up to 64 speakers. Platinum Home Theaters is now installing Atmos systems in home theaters with as few as 4 additional speakers, and with as many as 32 speakers. Dolby provides more information here. Atmos is scalable to your space! You don't need dozens of speakers to achieve fully immersive Atmos sound. We can add as few as 4 speakers to your existing system, and Atmos will scale itself to operate correctly with them to provide you with a full and believable sound field. If you have the desire for the ultimate, and have the space, we can build you a "Reference-Level" Atmos home screening room with 32 speakers. There are many movies already produced with Atmos soundtracks, around 100 at this writing, and more are released every month. They will be arriving to the home market on Blu-ray very soon. You won't need to update your Blu-ray player to play Atmos soundtracks, but you will need to update some electronics and add speakers. What pieces you'll need, how many speakers, and where to put them is where we come in. We can optimize your installation to play Atmos soundtracks with the most cost-effective equipment, and minimal room modifications. Most systems are at least half-way to Atmos now! But there are many design questions, like "Do I use reflecting height speakers, or on-ceiling speakers?" and "What options are there for in-celing Atmos speakers?" As an example, reflecting or on-ceiling/in-ceiling speaker choices are driven by the specific installation. Both answers are right, yet either could be wrong for you. Did you know there are currently no Atmos-capable in-ceiling speakers? That's right, none. Yet we have the solution, and can provide as many Atmos ceiling speakers as required from solutions we have engineered.
